Sheffield waste management responsibilities fall mainly on the shoulders of the city council, although they have chosen to outsource a large portion of that to Veolia.
Sheffield City Council are responsible for providing services including waste management to a population of around 575,400 people, spread across approximately 230,000 households. Bin collections are a large part of that obligation, covered by their contract with Veolia.
In addition to emptying the bins, Veolia also operate the five Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) across the city, along with the incinerator located near the city centre end of the Sheffield Parkway.
In this section, we discuss the operations in Sheffield, carried out by the council, Veolia and other businesses specialising in waste management and recycling.
