What Are The Doncaster Tips And Opening Times?

Doncaster council have a responsibility to provide waste management services to Doncaster and their wider area. While most waste produced by residents goes into wheelie bins for collection, items that are not suitable for collection or excess waste can be taken to the nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) – the tip!

Six Doncaster tips are located at Armthorpe, Balby, Carcroft, Conisbrough, Hatfield and Rossington. They offer a range of recycling facilities, plus general waste for landfill. The Doncaster HWRCs are for residents only, sites open on different days to offer facilities every day of the week.

Summer hours run from 1st April to 30th September. Winter hours run from 1st October to 31st March.

Doncaster Tips And Bank Holiday Opening

As a rule of thumb, the HWRC sites will be closed on 25th and 26th December for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, along with the 1st January for New Year’s Day. However, their may at times be slight variations to this, potentially for extra days where the sites are unavailable depending on where the Bank Holidays fall.

Permits And Doncaster HWRCs

In order to visit the tip in a van, or take a trailer to one of the sites, you will need a permit to gain entry. This is because businesses are not permitted to use resident services.

During the application process for permits, you will need to demonstrate that the vehicle is privately owned and registered to a domestic property with the registration document.

In the event that you wish to visit a recycling centre with a very large vehicle such as a Luton van or vehicle that would normally be associated with business use, you may be able to arrange a one off exception permit. These are granted on a case by case basis and available for visiting the Armthorpe Road site. It does not allow for a change in the waste you can deposit, so it must still be domestic rubbish, it simply allows a larger vehicle to be used.

Closures Due To Maintenance Work Or Unexpected Events

From time to time, the tips need to close to work to be carried out, or for other reasons such as accidents or equipment failure.

Every effort is made to keep these occasions to a minimum, however they are inevitably going to be necessary due to the nature of the work that goes on at the sites.

Between September and November 2021, all six sites will be closed for several days while repairs are completed, and sites prepared for the coming months and years. The intention is only one site will be closed at a given time, so there will always be an alternative site available to drop off waste on a given day.

If you have a permit for visiting a site which is closed due to these planned works, you will be able to use any of the other sites on your allocated day. If you are using a high vehicle, check restrictions at the site you plan to use.
